Rainy Day RV Rescue

Many RV campers don’t want to let a little rain spoil their fun. Here are some of the ways to enjoy rainy RV trips and make sure they’re still fun for the whole family. Keep a few tricks up your sleeve so you can keep the kids entertained, no matter what the weather’s like.

Have a Rain-Friendly Set-Up

One visit to a local campground and you’ll see the pros and their set-ups. If you don’t have an awning on your RV, get one installed. Or, pack a canopy or tarp and folding chairs, and you can still enjoy the outdoors even if it’s raining. It’s the local way!

Play in the Rain

If you can’t beat it, join it! Take a rainy walk and splash in puddles, float leaves, make paper boats, or go on a rainy-day photo safari. The rain invites many bugs and crawling critters out to play, go out and find them. You could play naturalist’s bingo, and make a game out of searching for different plants, flowers, animals and natural features.

Cook Up a Storm

If your children are culinarily curious, you can get them involved in a cooking or baking project. You can bring along some mixes (put them on your packing list!) so it’s easy to put together brownies or cupcakes, and you can have fun decorating them too if you plan ahead.

There’s no reason your rainy RV outing should be any less memorable than one in clear weather. Plan ahead and embrace the seasons, and be grateful you’re not tenting!
